Animal Instinct Continued

Python, leopard and zebra prints have continued to dominate the runways as it did last season. Long fur and faux coats have been replaced with light, silky tops and skirts. I’ve also noticed animal prints being added to bags, belts, shoes and hats, either in its entirety or in trimming.

I’m most excited about getting my hands on an animal print fanny pack or bucket hat...this will be perfect for those spring/summer bbq’s, concerts, and long walks in Central Park! On the go, it’s always most comfortable to be hands-free while still looking stylish and keeping the sun out of your face. A few designers like Burberry even mixed and matched both leopard and zebra, which I found to be really creative and aesthetically pleasing.

Color Blocking

Yellow, as well as red and orange are key colors this season. While watching some of the shows for SS19, it instantly reminded me of the Rubik's Cube! Color blocking is a major theme amongst many designers this season. Pure pigmented cobalt blue also dominated the runway shows like Kenzo and Balenciaga. Color blocking with very rich hues, like cobalt and orange are bold and fun, but even pastel pinks or mint greens as seen in the Marc Jacobs show are perfect combinations to achieve the look. This Spring I’m excited about pairing cobalt blue with neon and accessorizing with a tie dye sandal or bag to complete the look.

Tie Dye

Tie Dye! The most fun and interesting new trend on my list that has made a comeback! It first became a fashion fad in the psychedelic hippie era of  the late 1960’s and 70’s - worn by major artists like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Tie Dye within the psychedelic era, acted as symbols for the reordering of social, political, and artistic structures in the late 60’s and 70’s. Many designers this season featured it in their SS19 collections; each adding their own re-interpretation. My favorite take on it was that of Prada, they incorporated bright, rich blues, pinks and neons into very feminine, chic midi skirts and sheer blouses! I died and landed in fashion heaven. They even incorporated the same print in their hand bags, making it both fun and sophisticated, simultaneously. Who’s ready to relive the era of the hippies? Minus the LSD and hallucinations of course.

The Top Handle Bag

The ladylike top handle bag seems to carry on even after several fashion seasons. This is probably my favorite trend of all this season, as it represents and most resonates with my own sense of personal style. The top handle silhouette is so chic, feminine, and dainty. It also gives a vintage and classic feel to any outfit. It continues to be a statement and go-to piece worn by street style influencers and bloggers alike. Because they come in an array of  sizes, designs and silhouettes; it can be worn with a dressy gown to a wedding or out for a Sunday brunch with friends. Some of my favorite designers that I love most have featured these in their recent collections, such as Cult Gaia, Rejina Pyo, Staud, Jacquemus, Simon Miller, and Danse Lente.

Neon Everything

Neon made a huge appearance on the SS19 runway of many designers like Prada, Versace, Fendi, Armani, Marc Jacobs, D&G and more - worn in combination with florals, solids, colorblocked or just added as pops of color. Some might find wearing a monochrome look with these colors to be a bit much; in that case, it can be added as an accent to a plain or solid colored outfit to make it fun. I’m looking forward to pairing my neons with beige or khaki and also with a cool python print this season. Lets face it, the bright highlighter yellow/green will be out of the comfort zone for many, but it definitely challenges the world of fashion and pushes all those who follow to experiment and be bold!
